Join us on an incredible three day adventure through the great New Mexican outdoors! Whether you’re coming to or from Philmont camp or a school/ youth group looking for an incredible team building experience, our Ultimate Scouting Adventure is the trip for you! The Rio Grande Gorge is a broad canyon with lush riparian habitat along the banks of the Rio, but let’s not forget about the whitewater! Whether we’re kayaking, rafting or standup paddleboarding, there is something for everyone to enjoy, making this trip a fantastic three day adventure!

  • Paddle through the action of the Rio Grande Gorge
  • Amazing wildlife sightings from bighorn sheep to golden eagles
  • Comfortable developed campground in the Rio Grande Del Norte national monument
  • Delicious meals prepared by your guides

This trip meets at our private, Rio Grande Headquarters which is conveniently located 1 hour north of Santa Fe and 30 min. south of Taos. Our fully stocked Headquarters and Outfitters Shop is in the heart of the Rio Grande Gorge right across the street from the river, less than 1 mile from the finishing point of the most popular trips and offers safe, secure parking in our private parking lot.

Do I need to know how to swim?
It is recommended but not mandatory that all our guests know how to swim. All guests are given Type V, US Coast Guard approved flotation devices (lifejackets) that are designed to float you on your back, nice and high in the water. For all our class 3 and above sections on the Rio Grande, you will also be issued a helmet.

What do I need to wear?
We have packing lists for you to review for each of our different trip types. Remember that the weather changes dramatically throughout the New Mexico rafting season. It can be significantly colder during March-May we encourage our guests to always be prepared.

What if it’s my first time, do I need experience?
There is no experience required for any of our river trips. However, we encourage experience for our more difficult, Taos Box and Razorblades trips. Please feel free to call us with any concerns or questions about appropriate trips for your group.

Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, we cannot bring our furry friends on our river trips. We ask that you leave your pets at home before heading to our headquarters.

Can I leave my dog with you?
We do not have a secure area to keep your dog at our headquarters. Moreover, the temperatures get extremely hot during our season, because of this, you will NOT be able to leave your pets in your car. We ask that you leave your pets at home before heading to our headquarters.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Grab a paddle and let’s hit the river! Team-building takes on a new form as you work with your crew to crash through rapids and maneuver around boulders while making your way downstream. Keep your eyes peeled in between the action of the rapids for Ancient Puebloan petroglyphs, freshwater springs and incredible breathtaking geological features.

For the next couple of nights, you will enjoy sleeping under the stars of the New Mexican skies at our riverside camp within the heart of the stunning Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Sit back in one of our camp chairs and take in the vibrant colors of the sunset while the guides pass around appetizers and prepare a delicious dinner and dessert. With views like these, you won’t want to forget your camera. There will be ample fishing opportunities as well as hiking trails directly from camp! In the morning you’ll wake up to a hot cup of coffee and a beautiful breakfast before loading up the rafts and heading downstream into the rapids of the Rio Grande Gorge.

The final morning provides a fantastic opportunity to stand up paddleboard and inflatable kayak amongst some of the most incredible views of the canyon! We will have opportunities to hop out and swim, look for wildlife and enjoy the beautiful Rio Grande! Be sure to keep a look-out in the water for river otters, the cliffs for bighorn sheep and the sky for bald eagles! After a riverside lunch, we will make our way back to our Headquarters where your vehicles will be waiting for you. You will have an opportunity to take a look at your photos from the past couple of days and grab some NMRA merch to commemorate your adventure!
