Increase your adventure level and feel the river!  There are two distinct types of kayaking on rivers.  The first is inflatable kayaking which is great for everyone and requires no previous experience.  Only offered on certain trips and sometimes only at certain water levels (lower flows), this i sa great way to jump right into running was class 2-3 whitewater with yourself at the helm and in charge of your own destiny.

The second type of kayaking is called “hard shell” kayaking.  This is the traditional, plastic or fiberglass composite kayak with your legs inside the kayak and a neoprene closure keeping the water out.  This is a sport that requires lots of instruction, dedication and practice.  In this type of kayaking, you do not need previous experience, however, the courses we teach always begin for the first few days on flatwater, in calm pools or gradually introducing the students to class 1 and 2 whitewater.  We do have a full service whitewater kayak school and great instructors to teach you an amazing sport for you to eventually enjoy on your own for many years to come.

Want to be in charge of your own craft? Get up close and personal with the whitewater of the Rio Grande and Rio Chama. We offer the best Santa Fe and Taos inflatable kayaking trips available. Our inflatable kayaks or “duckies” are highly stable and maneuverable boats that allow even the experienced rafter the most excitement available on our selected inflatable kayaking trips.

Inflatable kayaking is for anyone, experienced or first-time river runners, to enjoy the most exciting and hands-on craft on the river. We offer inflatable Kayaks on all of our Rio Chama River Trips as well as selected Rio Grande River Trips. If you are interested in a single or tandem ducky for your 2 or 3 day trip on the Rio Chama, please let our reservationists know when you book the trip. You may also indicate it on your Guest Questionnaire from.

As for the Rio Grande, we always offer the choice of duckies on our Orilla Verde Half Day Trip and Middle Taos Box Inflatable Kayaking Trip. When water levels are at their lowest in the early spring and late summer, we also offer the choice of duckies for our Racecourse Half Day Trip and our Rio Grande Gorge Full Day Trip. When available, all inflatable kayaks are offered at No Extra Charge! All inflatable kayaks must be requested at the time of reservation and may not be available if requested upon arriving at our Headquarters or at the specific meeting location.

The Trips

Rio Chama 2 Day Rafting Trip

Bring the entire family and join us on the Rio Chama for the most scenic multiple day river trip in New Mexico. We begin the 21 mile river trip outside of the the alpine town of Chama, NM and float down into a stunning and colorful sandstone and limestone canyon finishing up near the renouned artist village of Abiquiu. The upper reaches of the river are well known for gorgeous pine trees lining the banks of the river and spectacular views of the desert cliffs that border this area and that are so famous in many different artists works, such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Red, yellow and purple color bands are painted across the desert as the river flows past towering sandstone cliffs. This stretch of river hides many treasures within the high reaching walls like hot springs, homesteads, ancient Indian ruins, and dinosaur tracks perfectly preserved in Jurassic era mud to name a few.
