Northern New Mexico Weather

The Northern New Mexico weather is hard to beat! With the average number of sunny days right around 280, what’s not to love? We truly have four seasons here which lends itself to gorgeous snow capped mountains, fields of wild spring flowers, perfectly warm summer days, and colorful crisp falls. Of course our favorite season is whitewater rafting season. The summer time has perfect temperatures to hit the river and enjoy some big splashes from the mighty Rio Grande.

In late July and August, we enter our monsoon season. This means that we can sometimes see late afternoon spurts of rain that usually last about 30 minutes, just long enough to cool off the temperatures and knock the dust down! If you are traveling to New Mexico during this time, it is a good idea to bring a rain jacket.

As far as dressing for the Northern New Mexico weather when you come rafting with us, best to wear synthetic clothing in the earlier part of the rafting season, April-May, swim trunks and a tee shirt in the heart of the season, June, July and early August, and synthetic clothing towards the end of the season, late August and September.
