Let us lead your family into adventure and lifetime memories! New Mexico River Adventures is a family-run business that understands and values how important it is to expose children to new experiences while keeping your most precious cargo safe. The best and most popular time of year for any of these family whitewater rafting trips is during the summer break from school when the weather in the high desert is right around perfect every single day! Our impeccable safety record and highly trained guides speak for themselves, but let us fill you in on a few of the family-friendly trips we offer. We believe these are the three best family whitewater rafting trips in New Mexico! 1. Half-Day Orilla Verde The perfect family whitewater rafting trip in New Mexico that suits most ages is the half-day Orilla Verde, with the minimum age being 3. Year Around Boating in the United States

November 11th, 2013

For the longest time my life goal was to find the perfect place here in the U.S. to call home that offers the greatest rafting and kayaking all year around.  My search has taken me to a lot of beautiful parts of the country and as I’ve grown older, my criteria has become much more detailed, making my search never ending.  After living, boating and working on rivers all across the country, I finally learned the most important lesson that would help in my search for “home”.  The lesson was that no place is perfect!  Whether its work, cost of living, culture or some other limiting factor, the search for the perfect place will be never ending because it simply doesn’t exist.  However, there is a bright side, there are a myriad of near perfect places in this country to choose from and I couldn’t be happier with our choice of beautiful Northern New Mexico. I know that some people might think of New Mexico as dry desert with nothing but cactus and casinos.  Those people have never been to this amazing place and furthermore have never experienced the incredible river running opportunities on the Rio Grande at all different […]

How Safe is Whitewater Rafting?

October 21st, 2013

No matter what trip you are running with New Mexico River Adventures, safety for all of our guests and guides is paramount. We give a thorough safety orientation at the beginning of each New Mexico rafting trip that is specific to the stretch of river that you are running detailing all scenarios that may come up during the day. The office staff does our very best to match the best trip for each guest over the phone, and we are very flexible should a group want to change their mind if they feel the trip is over the heads of some participants. Our goal is to expose as many people as possible to rivers and wilderness as we can in the safest manner possible. Just ask one of our friendly reservation staff upon booking about which whitewater rafting, kayaking or stand up paddle boarding trip is best for you and your group.  If you have specific concerns, present or prior medical conditions or just general apprehension, let us know and we can address any concerns you may have and make sure to pair you with the greatest and safest whitewater river adventure available. Often times we are asked if it […]

Fun For The Entire Family!

Low Water is Still Good Water!

June 23rd, 2013

Wouldn’t be wonderful if we could only design our weather and water to fit our needs each and every year.  Unfortunately we cannot and with these uncertain climates, we enjoy everything that Mother Nature produces.  Whether its low water, high water, windy, raining, snowing or bright and sunny, the river is always a great place to be.  In the early spring, we offer wetsuits, splash jackets and warm layers for our clients to use at no extra charge.  During the monsoon season, don’t worry if you forgot your rain jacket for the afternoon storm because we have you covered!  Some years we have high river flows, some years we have low river flows, regardless of the season, we are lucky enough to be permitted on such a large variety of sections of the Rio Grande and Rio Chama that there is always a great option for you to have a great time whitewater rafting with New Mexico River Adventures! Lately, the press seems to enjoy highlighting the fact that this 2013 season will be a disastrous drought and the a bad river season for whitewater rafting.  Conversely, if this were a huge water season, you can guarantee that the press […]

Ready For Taos Box Rafting?

May 21st, 2013

After finishing up the first week of rafting season, many rafting companies are trying to sort out how busy this year is going to be. As guests seek to find the best possible rafting option for them, they are looking at Taos Box rafting trips, one of the world’s most popular whitewater rafting destinations. Taos Box is a canyon that flows through the heart of the Rio Grande Gorge at 800 feet deep. This gorge is one of the best to be found in New Mexico. Many recreational areas provide hiking, biking, sightseeing, and rafting along the gorge. Taos Box is one of the two main sections for rafting, the other being the Racecourse Run. Taos Box rafting is famous for its giant rapids that provide an intense experience for skilled rafters. The river is calm at the beginning with the rapids increasing and becoming more intense at the end. This section is rated as a Class IV, with different sections packed in with fast paced water rides that are going to soak everybody involved. This rafting is typically a full day length of rafting, with a stop in between to take a break. It is in the heart of […]

2013 Season has started!

April 8th, 2013

New Mexico River Adventures has just finished its first week of the 2013 New Mexico rafting season with a bang!  We have had wonderful spring weather here in Northern New Mexico and our guests have been taking advantage of it.  Just last week we ran daily trips on the famous Racecourse and Rio Grande Gorge sections of the Rio Grande. Water levels have remained steady at 500cfs (cubic feet per second) which is the perfect springtime level for the Rio Grande.  We are looking forward to some more intermittent storms throughout the month of April which will boost our snowpack and provide us with significantly more water than last year and great water levels for all of our trips, including the Taos Box, throughout the months of April and May.  After the spring runoff peak in June and throughout the rest of the season, we are looking forward to steady, great water levels and weather to enjoy spectacular rafting adventures on the Rio Grande and Rio Chama. Our guides our extremely excited for the 2013 New Mexico rafting season and can’t wait to see you all sometime throughout the spring and summer for a spectacular adventure!  Call our friendly staff […]

What Sets NMRA Apart From The Rest

March 6th, 2013

In 2011 we decided to make some big changes and offer a new experience for river enthusiasts in New Mexico.  We changed our name to New Mexico River Adventures and built a brand new headquarters just 1 mile from the take out of the most popular stretch of Rio Grande rafting.  We wanted to create a full service facility because we believe that each guests adventure starts the minute we meet you before the trip.  These are just some of the ways we are setting ourselves apart from the other rafting outfitters in New Mexico. Private, Secure Parking From the minute you arrive at our new headquarters you’ll be greeted by one of our many friendly staff in our gated, private parking lot.  You won’t have to park in a public parking lot and look around for your rafting company’s representative.  With NMRA, you meet at our headquarters and don’t have to worry about theft or your personal belongings going missing. Full Service Retail/Souvenir Shop We know that sometimes you might forget little things like sunscreen, water bottles, eyeglass retainers or hats.  Our headquarters have you covered with all of the small items as well as stylish rafting t-shirts and […]

Spring Snow!

February 10th, 2013

After a fairly dry January, Northern New Mexico is looking forward to a very different February.  The beginning of the month brought a strong southerly system through Arizona and New Mexico.  Arizona saw a very wet system of higher temperatures leaving much of their drainage with rain on top of higher elevation snow.  This storm saw some extremely high flows on the Rio Verde and its many tributaries.  At it peak on the last days of January and the first of February, the Rio Verde above Horseshoe Dam reached approximately 17,000 cubic feet per second.  Quite an exciting time for Arizona boaters who were willing to dodge the many trees and large pieces of debris traveling downstream at the same time. Luckily, the system arrived in Northern New Mexico with much cooler temps and left a nice addition to our high elevation snow pack and specifically water content.  As we look far into the future, forecasting for the entire month has been predicted as WET, making this good news for New Mexico rafting season 2013.  Normally, I trust these long term forecasts about as far as I can throw them.  However, with optimism driving me through the spring, I’m happy […]

Rafting Season is Here!!

April 13th, 2012

New Mexico River Adventures is on the water!!  We have been running trips since April 1st on the Racecourse, Taos Box, Orilla Verde and Rio Chama.  We just launched a Rio Chama 3 day trip, our second of the season, that will be sure to hold fantastic wildlife sightings this early in the season including numerous sightings of mule deer and raptors.  Due to the warm March we had in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, there have been great releases on the Rio Chama in order to make room for all the snow melt coming into El Vado Dam. The Rio Grande saw higher than normal water levels through the Taos Box and Racecourse in March also due to warm temperatures.  We had some wet and wild rides through the Box and spotted our old buddies, the Big Horn Sheep.  The water has dropped down to more typical levels for this time of year which are still great to get out on the Rio Grande Gorge full day trip or the Racecourse half day trip.  We have some great storm prospects in the near future that will add to the snowpack and provide some great rafting later in the […]
