Already an ACA Instructor? You will need to complete a 2-day Instructor Update every 4-years as one of your Instructor requirements. This may also be a good time to bump up your level of certification.

This trip meets at our private, Rio Grande Headquarters which is conveniently located 1 hour north of Santa Fe and 30 min. south of Taos. Our fully stocked Headquarters and Outfitters Shop is in the heart of the Rio Grande Gorge right across the street from the river, less than 1 mile from the finishing point of the most popular trips and offers safe, secure parking in our private parking lot.

What time of year are you courses offered?
Dates for all of our ACA certification courses in December and January and vary year to year. We usually offer courses in the Spring and Fall. Our custom courses are available at different times throughout the season, please contact our helpful reservation staff for more information and to reserve your space.

What kind of certification will I receive?
Our ACA courses have the opportunity to receive up to a level 4 certification in each skill. Certifications are determined by class participation, understanding of the material and skills.

Who will my instructors be?
All of our instructors are industry leaders with a high level of skill and experience. Their patient, knowledgeable approach to each skill will set you up for not only a fruitful but fun experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Are you a whitewater professional looking to instruct Swiftwater Rescue Technician courses to your river crew or other professionals.  The ACA has a long history of leading the industry in the best instructional guidelines for all aspects of river running and safety.  This two day course is for experienced boaters and rescuers who want to continue as certified Swift Water Rescue Instructors. Instructor candidates will be assessed on Teaching Ability, Rescue Ability, Technical Knowledge and Group Management throughout this course for a final recertification level.

The ACA has a long history of leading the industry in the best instructional guidelines for all aspects of river running and safety. This five day course is for experienced boaters and rescuers who want to become Swift Water Rescue Instructors. Instructor candidates will be assessed on Teaching Ability, Rescue Ability, Technical Knowledge and Group Management throughout this course for a final certification level.

Prerequisites for the Swiftwater Rescue Instructor Recertification:

  • Minimum 18 years old.
  • Must be current ACA member: Become a MEMBER or RENEW.
  • Current ACA Safety Education & Instruction Committee (SEIC) Dues must be paid to hold any level Instructor Certification.
  • Confident class III boater in whitewater discipline of choice.
  • Participants should have current ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor Certification.

We will plan on meeting at the New Mexico River Adventures every morning at 9:00am and return by 5:00pm. Bring a lunch and paddling gear all days of the course.
