Rafting in New Mexico

Which New Mexico Rafting Trip Is Right For Me?

New Mexico River Adventures has the perfect trip for everyone! Whether it be on the wild whitewater of the Taos Box, or on a scenic float through the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, you will be sure to have a memorable experience.

Trying to decide which New Mexico rafting trip is right for you and your group can be tricky and we are always glad to help you figure that out. The knowledgeable office staff is always ready to talk through the specifics of all the whitewater and float trips we offer to be sure that you end up on the trip best suited for you. We do have minimum age and weight requirements on all stretches that can change as water levels rise or fall.

Here are a few common questions we encounter from our guests regarding the best trip for them:

How long will we be on the water?

What kind of shape should I be in for New Mexico rafting?:

This depends on the trip you are interested in. Some of the trips may require slightly more strenuous paddling when the water levels are higher, but you don't have to be Superman or Wonder Woman and afterwards, you should not feel like you will not be able to use your arms for the remainder of your vacation. As far as size goes, you have to fit in our PFDs (personal flotation device or lifejacket) in order to go on the river with us.

We have kids, which trip should we go on?

The Racecourse Half Day, The Rio Grande Gorge Full Day or The Rio Chama Full Day are great for families with kids. Most of the season, our minimum age for all of the these trips is 5. We also offer a float trip for families with kids 2-4 that is fun and a great opportunity to expose them to rafting without some of the obstacles on other stretches.

Is it okay to take children on the overnight trips?

Yes! We think our Rio Chama overnight is a great trip to expose children to river rafting and camping! Whether we are floating the serene river or exploring dinosaur tracks, this trip is a hit with the entire family.
