Just back from another great trip to Santa Fe. We discovered NMRA last year and rafted with them twice. The second time we discovered the brewery directly across the street and fell further in love with this little patch of the rio grande.
I have a 7 year old and my brother has a 5 and 8 year old. Ryan, our guide for both trips last year and our one trip this year, was awesome. Great personality, remembered names, made the ride interesting, had been prepared with facts about the region, river, etc. I think I know who the owners are, and they are wonderful, but it is a testament to their team that it doesn’t matter if they are helping you or one of their staff is manning the counter.
As an important aside, they have a fully stocked shop for those items that you may have forgotten or didn’t know you needed. And they don’t take advantage of you either. Everything is fairly priced. I will, one day, book a three day trip with this outfit and really test our rafting and outdoorsmanship, but that will have to be in a few years when our children are big enough to handle it. For now, the lazy race course in the late summer is a perfectly mild adventure for our family.
Chris here posting on the raft trip Rio Chama. New Mexico River Adventures did an outstanding job. Imagine the most gourmet camping you have ever seen. Camping next to beautiful red, yellow and blue cliffs with a river gently washing by. Quite romantic and no work, they take care of every detail. You just relax. On the first night at the third course of our white tablecloth winemaker dinner I was eating Bacon wrapped Buffalo Tenderloin with Brandy Cherry Demi Glace, Creamy Potato Gratin, and Asparagus. Lili tells me “I love you and, by the way, when can we do this again”. Imagine total relaxation in one of the most beautiful NM settings with five star gourmet wine dinners every evening, life can’t get better than that. Sign me up next year. Thanks Ky and Matt.
Incredible fun and exciting rafting experience at a great value. All of the guides were awesome, but Elias was by far the nicest, most informative, and all around best guide we could have imagined! He knew so much about the area and was a definite pro at guiding the raft. We will definitely recommend and hope to return!

Thanks to the great folks at New Mexico River Adventures for a great trip down the river with our family, Scott Downs and Taylor Copper! It was great fun! Jose Elias, thanks so much for giving us the “tour”, and for making it such a fun trip. You are the best! We will definitely be back with more of the family!

My wife and I enjoyed a great day on the river to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Beginning with several calls to Matt, it was clear to me these folks liked and knew what they were doing; we didn’t feel like we were just another client, Once we got to the location, Matt and Ryan, our guide, went out of their way to make us feel welcome, at ease. I was concerned about how Pat would be able to handle the 4 hour trip, but with Ryan at the helm, it turned out to be the best time spent. Thanks to the folks at NMRA, our 30th was memorable.
Party of two to scout the outfit, not disappointed. Booked 8 of us for several days later. Did the race course both times, plenty of adventure for our group with 3 small children and a few beginners. Very laid back yet professional with every interaction. From what I gather, this is a relatively new business with seasoned professionals running things. The drive from Santa Fe is easy and scenic. The brew pub directly across the street is an added bonus after a day on the water. All in all, I have rafted all over Colorado 20 plus times with many outfits, first time rafting in NM. This one rates right up there with the best. We used Ryan both times we went, but from what I observed, all,the guides know what they are doing and interacted well with their clients.

This seasoned team of energetic, enthusiastic, extremely polite rafting experts delivered the perfect grand finale for our vacation! As novices, we were fortunate to have the owner, Matt Gontram as our guide (Along with Chrisman and Ryan as our “shadow rafters”). My wife had some initial reservations about the excursion but Matt’s thoughtful and respectful assurances got us confidently under way. As added unexpected pleasures, we were treated to a small lunch on the side of the river as well as digital photos of our trip at the end. Matt has many fascinating stories to share about his broad global rafting experiences and he’s built a small company with a great combination of charm and operational excellence. We decided somewhat spontaneously the night before to take this small adventure & we sure picked the right outfit for our first time!

Thank you Wendy, Matt and Chrisman for a memorable paddle trip on the Rio Grande. You have a top notch operation and provide a fun-filled river rafting adventure. I’m definitely going to come back for more. Until then I will be smiling about what a good time I had on my August trip.

NMRA provided us with a great time on the river and all the guides appeared friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. Our own guide, Ryan, was, of course, the very best and gave us a wonderful trip with amazing good humor, skill, and genuine niceness! Thanks…it was a blast.

Enjoyed a fabulous 2-day outing on the Rio Grande with NMRA. One day white water rafting and one day paddle boarding. Both completely different from each other and both fulfilling in adventure. Great food and service from this outfit. Super guides.

We did a lot of research before settling on a rafting company, and we were pleased as pie to discover our research paid off! After a great rafting trip down the ‘Race Course’ (Rio Grande) we are now loyal New Mexico River Adventure enthusiasts. We will definitely go back to New Mexico River Adventures for our next trip. NMRA is a small outfit run by extremely genuine, knowledgeable, and friendly people. They maintain a professional and informative website (a first impression that sticks, where I’m concerned), and were very friendly and informative when I called to ask more questions…The trip overall was wonderful, especially for our 8 and 12 year olds, but we’re definitely going back to NMRA without them one day to try something even more exciting (class 4 here we come!). Thanks New Mexico River Adventures! We had an unforgettable experience!!!

We had a great time and I so appreciate the effort you went to in order to make the trip happen. The scenery of course was beautiful and we always love being out of doors on the water. But what made the trip so exceptional was not only the excellent wine and fantastic food, but also the company – guests and staff alike.

New Mexico River Adventures is the place to be!!! My son and I recently took one of their trips and had the best time! If you chose another rafting company you will be sorry… When you get to the river you will immediately notice that they have the best equipment, the best guides and the most fun! They have a a very high level of professionalism that comes through every step of the way. When you are done make sure you enjoy Blue Heron Brewing Co. across the street 🙂 Great beer!!

My husband and I (ages 53 and 65) did the full day Rio Grande Rafting Experience and it was fabulous. Katrina was our guide and she was a true gem. Her communication skills were excellent and we felt safe and under control the whole trip. She was also very knowledgable about the area, the history and animal life. The equipment was first rate and the facility and staff were all very professional and friendly. We felt comfortable about our choice from the very first interaction online before we booked. We would highly recommend this outfitter.
